Acclaimed Musical ‘A Strange Loop’ Debuts on the West Coast in San Francisco

The highly acclaimed musical ‘A Strange Loop’ has arrived in San Francisco for a limited engagement at A.C.T. theater. This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning production captivates audiences with its exploration of identity, self-acceptance, and the power of storytelling.

Inspired by the personal experiences of its creator, Michael R. Jackson, who once worked as an usher for ‘The Lion King,’ ‘A Strange Loop’ delves into the mind of a young, Black, gay musical theater writer named Usher. As he navigates the complexities of his own self-perceptions, Usher’s inner thoughts take form around him, creating a ‘Circle of Strife.’

Through Usher’s journey, the musical explores the intricate relationship between our inner and outer selves, highlighting the power of owning our stories and the challenges we face in the process.

The show’s leading role is portrayed by Malachi McCaskill, a college student who brings his own personal experiences and vulnerability to the character. He believes that the performance allows him to explore the deepest parts of himself and share them authentically with the audience.

As Jackson explains, the musical aims to inspire self-reflection and introspection. He emphasizes that everyone has their own ‘strange loop,’ and the power to shape our own narratives is within us. ‘A Strange Loop’ runs until May 12th at A.C.T. theater in San Francisco.
