The Acne Studios runway show is one not to be missed, even braving the Parisian rain. Held at the Observatoire de Paris, in the 14th arrondissement, the show unveiled the Scandinavian house’s new silhouettes for Spring-Summer 2025, designed by Creative Director Jonny Johansson.
From the moment you step into the cube where the show unfolds, the tone is set. The runway is a vibrant landscape of sculptures, furniture, and paintings, featuring chairs, armchairs, and lamps, all crafted by Philadelphia-based visual artist Jonathan Lyndon Chase. This domestic scene perfectly encapsulates the inspiration driving Jonny Johansson’s collection. He explains, “I wondered if classic domestic codes could be translated into fashion.”
To explore this, he plays with surreal materials and fabrics, a departure from the usual catwalk fare. Familiar interior design elements are reimagined as clothing: waxed tablecloths become t-shirts, airy pastel curtains transform into flowing dresses, and retro placemats morph into twisted ensembles, all adorned with knotted embellishments. Vintage-inspired floral prints are paired with checks and polka dots, creating bold and graphic silhouettes. Volumes are redefined: knitwear is cinched, bags are oversized, suit jackets are padded, and high-waisted jeans are elongated and voluminous.
One standout piece is the quintessential cardigan, reimagined as a skirt or nonchalantly draped over a shoulder. This hybrid and subversive wardrobe outlines the trends we’ll be eager to embrace next summer.
The accessories are just as bold. The new Camero bag, inspired by vintage camera bags, takes center stage alongside statement footwear. Pointed pumps with extra-long toes are a key element, while the ever-popular ballerina flats are adorned with Swarovski crystals.
Acne Studios’ Spring-Summer 2025 collection is a testament to Jonny Johansson’s unique vision and the power of reinterpreting everyday objects through the lens of fashion. The result is a bold and unexpected collection that pushes the boundaries of style and embraces a new era of surreal elegance.
