Indian golfing stars Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will be representing India at the upcoming Paris Olympics. This confirmation comes after the International Golf Federation (IGF) released the final women’s list of qualified players. The IGF’s Olympic qualification list, finalized after the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, features 60 women. The top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) are eligible for the Olympics, with a maximum of four golfers permitted from each country. While Aditi is currently ranked 60th in the world and Diksha 167th, they secured their places with Olympic ranks of 24th and 40th respectively.
The two women join Sharmila Nicollet and Amandeep Drall to form a four-member Indian team. The men’s (August 1-4) and women’s (August 7-10) golf events for the Paris Games will be held at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. This will mark Aditi’s third Olympic appearance, making her the most experienced Indian golfer at the Games. Diksha, on the other hand, will be competing in her second Olympics. Sharmila Nicollet and Amandeep Drall will be making their debut appearances at the Summer Games.
At the Tokyo Olympics, Aditi achieved a remarkable fourth-place finish, the best ever result by an Indian golfer at the Summer Games. Diksha finished tied for 50th place. Diksha holds a unique distinction as the only golfer to have competed in both the Olympics and the Deaflympics, where she is a two-time medalist. The Indian golfing contingent will be looking to build on their previous performances and achieve even greater heights at the Paris Olympics.
