ADOT Celebrates Arizona Volunteer Week and Earth Day with Adopt-a-Highway Program
As part of Arizona Volunteer Week and Earth Day, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is encouraging the community to participate in its Adopt-a-Highway program.
This initiative allows individuals and groups to contribute to a cleaner and safer environment by volunteering to clean and maintain one-mile segments of Arizona’s highways. ADOT provides all necessary training and materials, while volunteers are asked to commit to cleaning their adopted highway at least once a year. Bulk trash is picked up by ADOT.
The Adopt-a-Highway program has been a resounding success, with impressive statistics in 2023:
* 850 participating groups statewide
* Nearly 9,000 volunteers
* 15,000 bags of litter collected
* $674,000 worth of volunteer work
Interested parties can join the Adopt-a-Highway program by visiting azdot.gov/adoptahighway.
By volunteering, individuals and groups can make a meaningful difference in their community while promoting environmental stewardship and community pride.
