Aero, Europe’s Largest General Aviation Trade Show Returns Post-Pandemic

Nestled in a serene corner of Lake Constance, Friedrichshafen, Germany, played host to Aero, the leading general aviation trade show in Europe. The four-day event concluded on Saturday, attracting an impressive 31,500 attendees, a significant increase since the end of the pandemic.

With 680 exhibitors from 38 countries and 250 aircraft of various types on display, Aero has emerged as a hub for groundbreaking innovations within the aerospace sector. This year’s show placed a spotlight on sustainable aviation, highlighting several aircraft with alternative propulsion systems.

Emphasis on Sustainable Aviation

Aero’s organizers prioritized low-emissions and no-emissions flying, reflecting the industry’s growing commitment to environmental responsibility. Exhibitors showcased aircraft powered by electric and other alternative propulsion technologies. The show even dedicated a specific area to these sustainable solutions.

New Aircraft Announcements

Aero served as the stage for numerous announcements of new and improved aircraft. Tecnam unveiled its P2006T NG (New Generation) aircraft, incorporating over 300 modifications and an executive Sport version. The Czech/Belgium manufacturer JMB Aircraft introduced their powered glider, the Phoenix, while Cirrus Aircraft premiered its SR Series G7 in Europe.

Pilatus, the Swiss airframer, exhibited the latest enhancements to its popular PC-24 jet. The company’s engineers meticulously optimized over 700 components, resulting in significant weight savings and extended range.

Ultralight Advancements

The Czech Republic-based ultralight manufacturer Shark unveiled an innovative turbulence-canceling feature designed to enhance flight comfort in smaller aircraft. Their automatic flaplets配合 the wing design to minimize turbulence and provide a smoother ride.

Electric Aircraft Showcase

Aero celebrated its 30th anniversary with a small airshow on the closing day. In contrast to the military displays at similar events in the US, Aero featured a showcase of electric aircraft. The VoltAero Cassio S hybrid-electric test aircraft made an appearance, demonstrating its hybrid powertrain and sustainable fuel options. Other electric aircraft on display included the Bristell B23 Energic, Diamond eDA40, Ruien Aircraft, and Aura Aero’s electric aerobatic trainer, the Integral E.
