Aeromexico is making a significant return to the US leisure travel market with the launch of a new nonstop route between Miami and Cancun. This exciting new flight will commence on December 19, 2024, offering travelers a convenient and efficient way to reach the popular Mexican destination.
The route will be serviced by the fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX 8, featuring 166 seats, including 16 in business class and 150 in economy. Passengers can expect a comfortable and modern flying experience on this popular aircraft type. The daily flight, AM427, will depart from Miami International Airport (MIA) at 7:55 AM, arriving at Cancún International Airport (CUN) at 9:55 AM. The return flight, AM426, will leave Cancun at 11:10 AM and arrive in Miami at 1:05 PM, covering the 533-mile journey in roughly two hours.
This new Miami-Cancun route adds to Aeromexico’s growing portfolio of leisure destinations in the US. Earlier this year, the airline launched routes from Manzanillo International Airport to both Atlanta and Los Angeles, marking a significant shift in its strategy. Traditionally, Aeromexico focused on flights between Mexico City and major US cities, but recent expansions have allowed the airline to explore more leisure-oriented markets.
Aeromexico’s competitive cost structure, combined with its strategic expansion, positions the airline as a strong contender in the US leisure travel market. This move directly challenges established carriers like American Airlines and JetBlue, both of which also operate multiple daily flights to Cancun from the Miami area.
Founded in 1934 and now based at Mexico City International Airport (MEX), Aeromexico is Mexico’s national airline, operating a broad network of over 90 destinations across the US, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. The airline, a founding member of the Star Alliance, maintains a close partnership with Delta Air Lines, though this collaboration is being adjusted as Aeromexico continues to expand and refine its market presence.
