African Parks, a conservation charity supported by Prince Harry, has been accused of using a horrific torture technique called “the swing.” Former ranger Foster Kalunga detailed the method, which he described as tying up suspects’ hands and feet and hanging them on a stick between two branches, then spinning them around while beating them.
Kalunga’s claims have been corroborated by other victims and perpetrators in a new book by Dutch journalist Olivier van Beemen. Van Beemen’s investigation also revealed that African Parks had concerns about whether Prince Harry’s association with the organization could pose a reputational risk.
African Parks has vehemently denied the allegations, stating that they are based on false and misleading statements. The organization has a strict zero-tolerance policy for human rights abuses and has launched an investigation into the claims.
Despite African Parks’ denials, pressure group Survival International and Van Beemen have called for Prince Harry to step down from his role as a director of the organization. They argue that the allegations have damaged the organization’s reputation and that Harry should reconsider his involvement.
