For many gamers, Age of Empires and Age of Mythology hold a special place in their hearts, serving as gateways into the world of gaming. Now, two decades later, Age of Mythology is returning with a fresh coat of paint and a whole host of modern features under the name Age of Mythology: Retold.
Stepping into Age of Mythology: Retold, you’ll be greeted by the familiar, nostalgia-inducing soundtrack, but with a completely redesigned menu screen that feels modern and streamlined. The god selection screen has received a major overhaul, presenting a cleaner layout that neatly organizes gods into their respective pantheons. The game also boasts new gameplay settings and maps, including the addition of the intriguing new god, Freyr.
In a test match, playing as Zeus with standard settings and a 4K resolution, the game effortlessly delivered a smooth 120 FPS with my NVIDIA RTX 4090 graphics card. The game’s graphics are pushed to the max, including advanced Ray Tracing features, showcasing the visual enhancements of this remaster. While the built-in benchmark tool achieved a score of 1600, it’s worth noting that a minimum score of 1000 is required for multiplayer participation. Players might need to adjust their graphical settings to meet this requirement.
Age of Mythology: Retold is set to launch on Xbox and PC on September 5th, 2023, for $29.99. If you’re eager to relive the magic of this classic RTS game or dive into the updated world for the first time, the Steam listing is available here [insert Steam link]. Prepare to embark on a legendary journey filled with gods, mythical creatures, and epic battles, all with a fresh, modern twist.
