Japanese motorcycle racing star Ai Ogura is set to make the leap to MotoGP for the 2024 season, signing a two-year contract with the Trackhouse Aprilia team. The announcement came on Thursday at the Austrian Grand Prix, marking a significant step for the 23-year-old rider.
Ogura has steadily climbed the ranks in the world of motorcycle racing, showcasing his talent and determination. He secured third place in the 2020 Moto3 championship and followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 2022 Moto2 title chase. This season, Ogura has continued his impressive form, securing two race victories and currently holding second place in the Moto2 standings, just 18 points behind the leader, Sergio Garcia of Spain.
His consistent performance and proven ability have earned him the opportunity to join the elite ranks of MotoGP. Ogura will partner with Raul Fernandez, who recently extended his contract with Trackhouse. The move sees Miguel Oliveira depart from the team.
With his MotoGP debut on the horizon, Ogura will aim to build upon his impressive racing career and make a significant impact in the premier class of motorcycle racing.
