AIADMK’s Palaniswami Vows Victory in 2026, Defies Critics Amidst Centenary Celebrations

Chennai: In a resounding address at the centenary celebrations of AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran’s wife and former Chief Minister Janaki Ramachandran, general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) emphatically declared that no individual or force can dismantle the AIADMK. Addressing a large gathering in Chennai on Sunday, EPS rallied party members, urging them to harness the next 15 months leading up to the crucial 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections to secure a resounding victory.

Drawing parallels between the challenges faced by the AIADMK’s founding figures and the party’s current standing, EPS asserted, “MGR faced immense difficulties from DMK leader M. Karunanidhi during the AIADMK’s formation. Similarly, the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa battled numerous obstacles. These challenges persist even today. However, the aim of our adversaries to cripple us will not be realized.” He confidently refuted criticisms concerning the AIADMK’s recent electoral setbacks, stating, “Which party hasn’t experienced electoral defeats? Even the DMK faced repeated failures, spending a decade out of power before regaining governance. Therefore, our triumph in the next election is assured.”

EPS further emphasized the AIADMK’s legacy, highlighting its 31 years of governance in Tamil Nadu and the numerous developmental schemes implemented during that period, which he credited for the state’s progress in various sectors. He expressed gratitude to Janaki Ramachandran for donating the land for the party’s headquarters. In a veiled yet pointed critique, EPS alluded to rival O. Panneerselvam’s actions, stating, “God will take care of those who entered and caused damage to our party office, a place we consider a temple.” The implication of this remark, referencing alleged actions damaging the party’s headquarters, is unmistakable, although no names were explicitly used.

The event also included a virtual address by renowned actor Rajinikanth, who fondly recalled his close association with Janaki Ramachandran and celebrated her contributions to the growth of the MGR legacy. A video message from DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth was also played. A digitally generated video featuring MGR himself, delivering a message of congratulations to EPS and appreciation for party cadres, was another notable highlight, demonstrating a blend of tradition and technological innovation to engage the party faithful.

The centenary celebrations served not merely as a remembrance of the past, but as a powerful launchpad for the AIADMK’s campaign for the 2026 elections, signaling a renewed commitment to reclaiming power and continuing the party’s legacy under EPS’s leadership. The event showcased a potent combination of historical remembrance, strategic political messaging, and modern technological elements, creating a strong narrative for the party moving forward.
