The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has filed a legal complaint against Union Minister Giriraj Singh over his controversial remarks made during the ‘Hindu Swabhiman Yatra’ in Kishanganj, Bihar. The AIMIM’s complaint, lodged in Kishanganj court, cites Singh’s inflammatory statements as a significant concern. This action comes amid rising criticism from the Muslim community following his speech at the rally.
During the ‘Hindu Swabhiman Yatra’ on October 22, Singh urged attendees to stockpile weapons such as “spears, swords, and tridents” for worship and “self-defense.” He linked the alleged insecurity of women in Bihar to “love jihad,” a term often employed by right-wing groups to accuse Muslim men of enticing Hindu women into forced conversions through marriage. Singh claimed that “every year, many Hindu girls fall victim to love jihad” and expressed frustration at the perceived inaction against those involved.
The controversy escalated further when BJP MP Pradeep Kumar Singh, who participated in the rally, stated, “If one has to live in Araria, he has to become Hindu.” This remark, supported by other BJP leaders at the event, intensified the backlash against the ‘Hindu Swabhiman Yatra.’ AIMIM’s complaint against Giriraj Singh underscores the increasing tensions surrounding religious rhetoric in India. The court’s response to this complaint and its potential impact on the political landscape remains to be seen.
