Air India Faces Technical Glitches, Bomb Threats Disrupt Flights: What We Know

Air India passengers are facing a double whammy of disruptions. The airline announced on Thursday that its contact centers are currently experiencing technical difficulties, making it challenging for customers to connect with service executives. The airline acknowledged that customers may face intermittent connectivity issues and assured that they are actively working with their telecom partners to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Air India stated, “One of the telecom providers for our contact centers is facing technical difficulties. Due to this, there may be challenges connecting with our contact centers. While the telecom provider resolves the issue at its end, may we request your understanding and patience.” The company expressed appreciation for customers’ understanding and patience during this period, stating, “We truly appreciate your understanding and patience during this time, and regret any inconvenience caused.”

Adding to the chaos, nearly 70 new bomb threats were reported on Thursday, impacting major Indian airlines including Air India, Vistara, Akasa Air, and IndiGo, according to news agency PTI. The report stated that approximately 20 flights each from Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo received bomb threats, while Akasa Air faced threats for around 14 flights. This incident marks a concerning pattern, as in the past 11 days, nearly 250 flights operated by Indian carriers have received bomb threats.

In response to the security threats, Air India officials stated, “Some Air India flights were subject to security threats received on social media on 24th October 2024. Following the laid down protocols, relevant authorities were immediately alerted, and all security procedures strictly adhered to, as per guidance from the regulatory authorities. The safety and security of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remain our top priority.”

Akasa Air also confirmed that some of its flights were subject to security alerts on Thursday. “The Akasa Air Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the security and regulatory authorities. We are following all safety and security procedures in coordination with local authorities,” an Akasa Air spokesperson said in a statement.

These incidents highlight the growing concern over security in Indian aviation, particularly in the wake of the recent surge in bomb threats. Airlines are working closely with authorities to address these threats and ensure the safety of passengers and crew. The investigation into the origin of these threats is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to identify the culprits.
