Air New Zealand Prepares for Busy School Holidays with Record Number of Travellers

Air New Zealand is gearing up for a busy July school holiday season, anticipating a surge in travel demand across both its domestic and international networks. The airline is expecting to welcome nearly half a million travellers on its domestic network alone, with travellers eager to make the most of a mid-winter getaway. To accommodate the anticipated influx of passengers, Air New Zealand has added thousands of extra seats across its operations, bolstering its domestic network with an additional 30,000 seats on 240 flights.

This surge in travel is expected to bring a bustling atmosphere to airports across New Zealand, with the airline advising passengers to allow ample time for check-in and baggage drop-off. The airline also recommends downloading the Air New Zealand app for the latest flight updates, as weather conditions during this time of year can sometimes cause disruptions.

Queenstown is proving to be a popular choice for school holiday travellers, with 31,000 customers booked to visit the renowned winter destination. Meanwhile, Dunedin is set to experience a spike in visitors during the opening weekend of the school holidays, as the All Blacks face England in the southern city on Saturday, July 6th. To accommodate the influx of rugby fans, Air New Zealand has added nine additional return flights, representing 2,250 extra seats, for the weekend.

Beyond the domestic market, Air New Zealand is also seeing strong demand for international travel during the school holidays. An impressive 274,000 travellers are expected to jet off overseas, with Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane emerging as the most popular international destinations. Singapore and Fiji are also proving to be popular choices for those seeking sunshine and escape.

Air New Zealand is encouraging travellers to prepare for the busy holiday season by planning ahead and staying informed. It’s always advisable to purchase travel insurance for added protection in case of any unforeseen travel disruptions.
