Air Products & Chemicals (APD) is investing in the future of hydrogen energy in Canada. The company plans to build a network of permanent, commercial-scale hydrogen refueling stations along the Queen Elizabeth II highway from Edmonton to Calgary, Alberta. These stations will offer a fueling experience and speed that is similar to gasoline or diesel, making it more convenient for drivers to adopt hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Air Products (APD) is committed to supporting Western Canada’s goal of 5,000 hydrogen or dual-fuel vehicles on the road in five years. The new hydrogen infrastructure will play a crucial role in achieving this target. The stations will be equipped to serve heavy-duty vehicles, such as commercial and municipal trucks and buses, as well as light-duty hydrogen fuel cell cars.
Air Products (APD) has a strong track record in hydrogen production and distribution. The company already operates three hydrogen production facilities and a 55-km hydrogen pipeline in Alberta. This experience and expertise will be invaluable in developing and operating the new hydrogen refueling network.
The first station in the network is set to be located in Edmonton and come onstream in 2025. Air Products (APD) anticipates strong demand for hydrogen refueling as more and more businesses and consumers embrace hydrogen-powered vehicles.
