AirAsia X Soars Back to Chongqing, Connecting Malaysia to China’s Mountain City
In a significant move for tourism and connectivity, AirAsia X (AAX) has resumed its flights to Chongqing, China, the renowned Mountain City. This popular destination, known for its tantalizing local flavors, especially the famous spicy mala hotpot, is also the world’s largest municipality, boasting a population of nearly 32 million people.
The inaugural flight, D7 808, took off from Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, October 15, at 7:35 PM, carrying a near-full load of eager travelers ready to explore the vibrant city. The flight, which arrived at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport at 12:45 AM on Wednesday, October 16, was met with a celebratory send-off ceremony, graced by the presence of AirAsia X Chairman Dato’ Fam Lee Ee and CEO Benyamin Ismail.
Chongqing is increasingly becoming a favorite destination for solo travelers and couples seeking short escapes filled with rich cultural experiences. The city offers a perfect balance of excitement and relaxation, blending modern city life with historical charm.
This morning, AAX marked the arrival of its first flight from Chongqing to Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia. Passengers aboard flight D7 809 were warmly welcomed by Nor Hayati Zainuddin, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia, along with the AirAsia Allstars team.
This move reinforces AirAsia’s position as the largest foreign low-cost airline operating in China. The AirAsia Group currently serves 19 destinations across China, operating over 60 two-way routes.
