Latvian National Airline airBaltic and Bulgaria’s Flag Carrier Bulgaria Air Launch Codeshare Partnership
airBaltic, Latvia’s national airline, and Bulgaria Air, Bulgaria’s flag carrier, have announced the commencement of a codeshare partnership, effective May 8, 2024. This partnership is aimed at providing enhanced flexibility and travel options for passengers traveling between Latvia and Bulgaria, as well as connecting to other destinations within both airlines’ networks.
Expanded Travel Opportunities
Under this codeshare agreement, airBaltic will place its BT code on Sofia-Varna flights operated by Bulgaria Air. Simultaneously, Bulgaria Air will add its FB code to Sofia-Riga flights and extend it to airBaltic flights from Riga to key Scandinavian destinations such as Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Helsinki. This collaboration effectively expands the travel options for passengers, enabling seamless connections through the airlines’ respective hubs.
Strengthened Commitment to Connectivity
Hristo Todorov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bulgaria Air, expressed delight in the partnership with airBaltic, stating that it provides passengers with seamless connections and opens up new travel possibilities across Europe. This sentiment was echoed by Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, who emphasized the benefits for Baltic travelers in accessing Bulgaria Air’s network and for Bulgarian travelers in enjoying easier access to airBaltic’s European destinations.
Proven Success and Inaugural Flight
The codeshare partnership has already proven popular, with increased passenger numbers and seamless travel connections. The inaugural codeshare flight took place on May 14, 2024, marking the official launch of the collaboration.

airBaltic operates over 130 routes from its hubs in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria. These flights connect to a vast array of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region, providing passengers with a diverse range of travel options.
