airBaltic Appoints Dainis Bērziņš as New CIO to Lead Digital Strategy

Latvia’s flagship carrier, airBaltic, has announced the appointment of Dainis Bērziņš as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO). In this pivotal role, Bērziņš will spearhead airBaltic’s digital strategy, overseeing all aspects of information technology (IT) innovation, digital transformation, and data management. His primary goal is to enhance customer experiences through the implementation of cutting-edge technological solutions.

Martin Gauss, airBaltic’s President and CEO, expressed enthusiastic support for the appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Dainis Bērziņš to the airBaltic team! Mr. Bērziņš is a seasoned IT professional with a wealth of experience in digital transformation and IT management. Gauss further emphasized Bērziņš’s qualifications, stating, “Bērziņš’ proven track record of successfully managing complex IT projects and digital initiatives aligns perfectly with our vision for growth and technological advancement.”

Bērziņš joins airBaltic with an impressive background in the IT field. Most recently, he served as the leader of the Baltic IT department at Rimi Baltic, where he played a key role in advancing the company’s digital initiatives and enhancing customer interactions through technology. Prior to this, Bērziņš held several significant positions at Swedbank, including Head of IT Delivery, overseeing IT operations in Sweden and the Baltic regions.

His career spans diverse roles, including Division Director at Siemens IT Solutions and Services, along with positions at Erskine Management Consultancy, aquila, Result, Hansabanka, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Bērziņš holds an MBA in Information Systems and Management from the NYU Stern School of Business and a Digital Economy Initiative certificate from the same institution. He also possesses a BEng in Electronic Engineering with Computer Science from UCL.

With a robust network spanning over 130 routes originating from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria, airBaltic provides numerous connections throughout Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region. Bērziņš’s appointment signifies the airline’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance customer experiences and drive further growth.
