airBaltic Expands Codeshare Partnership with British Airways, Enhancing Connectivity

airBaltic, the national airline of Latvia, has announced an expansion of its codeshare partnership with British Airways, the UK’s flag carrier. This enhanced agreement, effective September 19, 2024, signifies a strengthened collaboration between the two airlines, promising increased connectivity for passengers.

The partnership expansion will amplify airBaltic’s presence in key markets by introducing new code-sharing opportunities. Notably, airBaltic will now place its code (BT) on the Riga-London Heathrow-Riga route, operated by British Airways. This new codeshare will take effect from October 1, 2024. The addition of airBaltic’s code to this popular route is designed to enhance travel options for passengers traveling between Latvia and the UK, especially those connecting through Riga.

With this expanded codeshare, airBaltic passengers will have smoother access to British Airways’ extensive global network via London Heathrow. This connectivity is a boon for travelers from Latvia, offering a more convenient and flexible travel experience to countless destinations. The enhanced cooperation between the two airlines also simplifies the booking process and improves passenger services.

In recent years, airBaltic has been expanding its codeshare agreements, aiming to offer its customers more diverse travel options globally. This partnership extension with British Airways marks another significant step in its strategy to connect Latvia to major international hubs. The airline remains committed to providing its passengers with access to a wide range of destinations and the best travel connections.

British Airways, with its extensive route network, will also benefit from the extended codeshare agreement. This collaboration will provide British Airways increased access to the Baltic region, strengthening its position in Northern Europe. The partnership will also allow British Airways to cater to more passengers traveling to and from Latvia, boosting overall passenger numbers.

This codeshare extension highlights the growing importance of strategic partnerships within the aviation industry. By combining their strengths, airBaltic and British Airways are positioning themselves to meet the increasing demand for international travel. The collaboration is anticipated to drive more traffic between Latvia and the UK, ultimately benefiting both airlines and their customers.

As airBaltic and British Airways move forward with this expanded partnership, passengers can expect smoother connections and a wider range of flight options. The move underscores both airlines’ commitment to enhancing the overall travel experience, offering greater flexibility and convenience for travelers in the region.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, stated, “We are delighted to extend our existing, long-term codeshare partnership with British Airways by now adding our code to their new route from Riga. Such a partnership will allow both airBaltic and British Airways to offer more flexibility to their passengers on flights between Latvia and the United Kingdom, and beyond. We are looking forward to many more years of successful cooperation.”

In 2024, airBaltic and British Airways celebrate a decade of successful codeshare partnership. As part of the ongoing collaboration, airBaltic will now add its code to British Airways’ Riga-London Heathrow-Riga flights. Meanwhile, British Airways will continue placing its code (BA) on airBaltic-operated flights from Riga and Tallinn to London Gatwick, maintaining the strong connection between these key destinations.

airBaltic, which operates over 130 routes from Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, and seasonally from Gran Canaria, offers extensive travel options across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region. This partnership extension strengthens airBaltic’s presence in these regions, providing passengers with enhanced connectivity and access to a wide array of international destinations.
