airBaltic, the Latvian airline, has announced the expansion of its network with a new route connecting Vilnius, Lithuania to Dusseldorf, Germany. The new service will commence on October 31, 2024, offering flights twice a week, every Monday and Thursday, year-round. This marks the fourth direct connection from Vilnius to Germany, joining existing routes to Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg.
This new route is a testament to the strong partnership between airBaltic and Lithuanian Airports. This marks their third collaboration of this kind, showcasing a commitment to expanding connectivity and boosting tourism and business opportunities between the two countries.
Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, expressed his enthusiasm for the new route, stating, “Vilnius is one of airBaltic’s home cities, and we are pleased to continue our expansion in the Lithuanian capital. By closely monitoring market trends and passenger demand, we believe that the flights between Vilnius and Dusseldorf will be a strategically important route for Lithuania, as Germany is one of the country’s most significant economic partners.” He added, “This will be already the fourth airBaltic destination in Germany from Vilnius, providing our customer with more travel options for business and leisure travels and by that increasing passenger traffic between both countries.”
The CEO of Lithuanian Airports, Simonas Bartkus, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of the new route for both countries. He stated, “The launch of this route means that we will have flights to six of Germany’s largest airports and ten regular routes between Lithuania and Germany. It is gratifying that our investment mechanism is successfully contributing to the development of a strategic direction for the country and to the preparation for the permanent deployment of the German brigade in our country.”
The flights will be operated by airBaltic’s Airbus A220-300 aircraft, known for its spacious cabins and comfortable seating. Passengers will have the choice between Economy and Business Class, offering a range of amenities to suit individual travel preferences. The journey between Vilnius and Dusseldorf is estimated to take approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
In addition to this new route, airBaltic currently connects Lithuania to over 20 direct destinations across Europe. This network is further expanded through collaborations with 24 code-share partners, offering one-stop connections to various destinations around the world. For the upcoming winter season, airBaltic has announced plans to launch seven new routes from the Baltic States, adding to its already robust flight schedule.
With this expansion, airBaltic continues to solidify its position as the leading and most preferred airline in the Baltic States, providing passengers with a wide range of travel options and enhancing connectivity within the region and beyond.
