Today, May 2, marks the beginning of the 2024 summer season for airBaltic, Latvia’s national airline. The season was inaugurated with a flight from Riga to Tirana and a special event at RIX Riga Airport.
airBaltic introduced six new destinations, enhancing its network with over 70 routes from Riga. This summer, airBaltic will also launch 15 new routes from various cities including Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere. Notable new routes include Palanga–Amsterdam and Copenhagen–Oslo (Sandefjord, Torp).
Tirana, the capital of Albania, skillfully blends its rich historical heritage with a vibrant modern atmosphere, making it a captivating European city. Situated in Albania’s heartland, surrounded by verdant mountains and picturesque scenery, Tirana is a cultural hub with museums, art galleries, theaters, stylish cafes, and traditional Albanian eateries. Distinguished by its vivid architecture and forward-thinking urban design, Tirana offers a distinct and inviting atmosphere to international visitors, promising a memorable journey.
Thomas Ramdahl, Senior Vice President Network Management of airBaltic, said: “As we launch the 2024 summer season, airBaltic is excited to introduce 15 new routes from our hubs in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere, enhancing our network into Central and Southeastern Europe with key destinations such as Chisinau, Ljubljana, Pristina, Skopje, and Tirana. This expansion not only reflects our commitment to growing our service and improving connectivity but also underlines our position as the leading airline in the Baltics. By continuously evaluating passenger demand and market dynamics, we ensure that our offerings meet the evolving needs of travelers, providing them with greater flexibility and convenience for both leisure and business travel. With these new routes, we anticipate a bustling summer filled with opportunities for our passengers to explore new cultures and experiences.”
Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of RIX Riga Airport, said: “The national airline airBaltic is the most important carrier at RIX Riga Airport, and we are pleased with the constant development of airBaltic at Riga Airport. The news of this summer flight season will be a great addition to the connectivity of Riga and the Baltics with business and leisure destinations across Europe. It is gratifying to see that airBaltic is especially strengthening connections towards the Balkans this year. We also see this as a good opportunity for growth, especially in the area of transit passengers. Moreover, the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen area eases the travel rules both for travelers from the Baltics to these countries popular among summer holiday travelers, as well as for Romanian and Bulgarian tourists who want to visit the Baltics.”
Flights from Riga to Tirana are scheduled to last 2 hours and 40 minutes. Additionally, today marked the first flight by airBaltic on the Riga-Sofia route, taking 2 hours and 35 minutes. Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, skillfully merges its ancient roots with a vibrant contemporary lifestyle, making it a captivating European city. Located at the base of Vitosha Mountain, Sofia is a blend of historical sites and dynamic urban activity. The city serves as a cultural hub with numerous museums, galleries, and theaters, as well as a variety of cafes and authentic Bulgarian restaurants. Renowned for its green spaces and dedication to cultural preservation, Sofia provides a distinct and welcoming atmosphere for visitors worldwide.
