airBaltic Launches Technical Academy to Train Future Aviation Technicians

On August 29, 2024, airBaltic, Latvia’s leading airline, celebrated the grand opening of its Technical Academy. The event, held at the airline’s Concors Hangar at RIX Riga Airport, welcomed new students, their families, and dignitaries from airBaltic, Riga Technical University (RTU), and Liepaja State Technical School (LVT). The academy marks a significant milestone for airBaltic and the Baltic region, providing students with a high-level technical education and preparing them for successful careers in the aviation industry.

The inaugural cohort of 57 students enrolled in three specialized programs has begun their journey towards becoming certified aircraft technicians. The academy, located in Riga and Liepaja, delivers practical training on the latest Airbus A220-300 aircraft. airBaltic President and CEO, Martin Gauss, emphasized the importance of skilled professionals in the aviation industry, highlighting the academy’s role in ensuring the airline maintains the highest standards of technical maintenance.

Gauss also expressed his hopes for the students, urging them to make the most of their learning opportunities at the academy. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, curiosity, and embracing challenges as these will shape their future success in the aviation industry.

The airBaltic Technical Academy aims to address the growing need for skilled aviation professionals. With an ambition to recruit and train around 400 aviation maintenance specialists by 2030, the academy offers three specialized programs. The programs are free and offer students the opportunity to balance work with their studies. Upon completion, students are guaranteed job placements in this skilled field.

The launch of the Technical Academy builds upon existing internship and training partnerships with universities, further strengthening airBaltic’s commitment to internal technical training initiatives for new hires. The Technical Academy joins the existing airBaltic Training programs, which include Pilot Academy, maintenance education, flight crew instruction, cabin crew training, ground staff training, and instructor development.

With its annual selection procedure, the airBaltic Technical Academy represents a significant investment in the future of aviation in Latvia and the Baltic region. This initiative ensures the continued development of skilled aviation professionals who will contribute to the success of airBaltic and the broader industry.
