Airbus has unveiled plans to establish a state-of-the-art Tech Hub in Japan to spearhead research and innovation in the aerospace sector. This strategic initiative is expected to fuel collaborations and advance cutting-edge technologies in three crucial domains: next-generation materials, decarbonization solutions, and robotics and automation. Headquartered in Tokyo, the Tech Hub will bolster Airbus’s global strategy to revolutionize aircraft development for the future. This announcement was made at Viva Technology 2024, a prestigious global technology expo held in Paris, where Japan was honored as the country of focus. The Japanese and French governments have extended their support to this significant venture. Distinguished attendees included representatives from the Japan Embassy in France, the French Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (DGAC), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and Airbus. Yoshio Ando, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister at the Embassy of Japan in France, expressed: “We enthusiastically welcome the establishment of Airbus Tech Hub in Japan. By leveraging Japan’s technological expertise, we can collectively contribute to addressing global challenges, such as the decarbonization of the aviation industry. We are confident that the Airbus Tech Hub in Japan will play a pivotal role in this endeavor.” Ravo Randria, Senior Manager of Cooperation Americas and Japan at DGAC, remarked: “Airbus Tech Hub in Japan will undoubtedly foster a vibrant ecosystem for aerospace professionals, facilitating partnerships and driving innovation that will shape the future of aviation.” Sabine Klauke, Chief Technology Officer at Airbus, emphasized: “We are thrilled to launch the Airbus Tech Hub in Japan in partnership with DGAC and METI. Japan is a strategic partner for Airbus, and this initiative underscores our unwavering commitment to strengthening our presence in the country.” The Airbus Tech Hub in Japan joins a global network of similar centers recently established in Singapore and the Netherlands. These hubs aim to enhance collaboration among Airbus’s global R&T teams, industry leaders, and local research and academic communities. By cultivating these partnerships, Airbus aims to drive innovation and shape the future of aviation.
