Recent market reports from Sandhills Global indicate an increase in inventory levels for used aircraft, particularly in the categories of jets, piston single aircraft, and turboprop aircraft. Despite this increase in supply, asking prices have largely remained stable across all categories except for jets. In the case of jets, asking prices have experienced a significant decline of nearly double digits year-over-year as of April.
Brant Washburn, Controller Department Manager at Sandhills Global, commented on the observed trends. While the company has observed strong aircraft sales despite the increasing inventory levels, Washburn noted that selling prices have been declining and that they are closely monitoring the markets.
The Sandhills Equipment Value Index (EVI) is the core metric used in all of Sandhills’ market reports. This data provides valuable insights for buyers and sellers, assisting them in tracking equipment markets and optimizing their decisions regarding acquisition, liquidation, and other business matters. The EVI encompasses information on equipment found in both auction and retail markets, as well as data on model-year equipment currently in operation.
The report offers a detailed analysis of asking prices and inventory trends within the used aircraft markets, accompanied by graphical representations for enhanced data visualization. It outlines and quantifies key trends in the buying and selling dynamics of used jet, piston single, turboprop, and Robinson piston helicopter aircraft.
Global Trends in Used Jets:
Used jet inventory levels have shown a consistent upward trajectory, with a 3.65% month-over-month (M/M) increase and a 9.49% year-over-year (YOY) rise in April. However, asking prices have continued their downward trend, dropping by 2.98% M/M and 9.25% YOY.
Used Piston Single Aircraft in the U.S. and Canada:
Inventory levels for used piston single aircraft in the U.S. and Canada saw a 6.75% M/M uptick in April, maintaining a steady trend overall, with an 11.54% YOY decrease. Asking prices have been fluctuating between monthly rises and falls, resulting in a consistent sideways trend. In April, asking prices saw a slight decrease of 0.51% M/M but a slight increase of 0.66% YOY.
Used Turboprop Aircraft in the U.S. and Canada:
Recent observations indicate a notable increase in inventory levels for used turboprop aircraft, rising by 7.96% M/M in April and showing an upward trend. Compared to the same period last year, inventory levels were 20.41% higher YOY in April. On the other hand, asking prices experienced a minor decline, down by 2.33% M/M but maintaining a stable sideways trend. This indicates market stability despite the monthly decrease, with asking prices only marginally lower compared to the previous year, down by 0.45%.
Global Trends in Used Robinson Piston Helicopters:
Sandhills observed a slight reduction in inventory levels for used Robinson piston helicopters, down by 4.2% M/M in April. Despite this dip, the overall trend in inventory remains sideways, with a 0.88% YOY increase. In contrast, asking prices saw a modest increase of 0.86% M/M, also maintaining a sideways trend that reflects steady market demand. Year-over-year, asking prices rose slightly by 1.28% in April.
