All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has announced plans to construct 700 madrasas after the party’s elected leaders take office. This move comes in response to the Assam government’s closure of all state-run madrasas and its intention to shut down around 1,000 private madrasas.
During his campaign in Nagaon, Mr. Ajmal stated that AIUDF candidates would prioritize opening madrasas after winning the second and third phases of the parliamentary polls. The AIUDF is contesting three seats in these phases: Karimganj, Nagaon, and Dhubri. Mr. Ajmal is seeking a fourth term as the representative for Dhubri.
Emphasizing the importance of education, Mr. Ajmal said, “The Supreme Court has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for its decision to close madrasas. We will also approach the top court and reopen the madrasas because education is our right.”
The campaign for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections ended on Wednesday, covering six parliamentary seats in Assam and Tripura, as well as a portion of the Outer Manipur constituency. More than 93 lakh voters will determine the fate of 74 candidates in these second-phase constituencies across the Northeast.
