A tense situation unfolded in Prague ahead of the Europa League match between Ajax Amsterdam and Slavia Prague on Thursday. A group of Ajax fans attempted to gain entry into Slavia Prague’s Eden Park stadium without tickets, leading to a confrontation with Czech police.
According to a statement on social media platform X, the police, clad in heavy riot gear, intervened to resolve the situation, resorting to “coercive measures” to control the crowd. Several fans were detained as a result.
Earlier in the day, several hundred Ajax supporters congregated in Prague’s Old Town Square. Prior to their departure for the stadium via the underground, police discovered a concerning cache of weapons left behind, including knives, baseball bats, and batons.
To maintain order during and after the match, a significant police presence was deployed throughout the city, reflecting the heightened security concerns stemming from the attempted stadium breach.
