Jill Dando and Alan Farthing’s future was shattered when Dando was murdered in 1999. They were engaged and planning their wedding.
Alan Farthing, now 60, is a highly esteemed gynaecologist-surgeon who specializes in complex surgery. He is currently the Head of Department at the Gynaecological Cancer at Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust and also has a private practice on Harley Street.
Farthing has a strong connection to the royal family. He was appointed as Queen Elizabeth II’s surgeon-gynaecologist in 2008, assisting her previous surgeon-gynaecologist Sir Marcus Setchell. He also played a vital role in the births of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Nearly a decade after Jill Dando’s murder, Farthing found love again with Dr. Janet Stowell, a fellow medical professional. They married in a small civil ceremony in 2008 and welcomed a son in 2010.
The hunt for Jill Dando’s murderer continues, but her legacy lives on through the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science at the University College London, which was established in her memory to promote crime reduction and safety.
