Alaska Airlines Expands Cargo Division with New Leadership Appointments

Alaska Airlines is embarking on a significant expansion of its cargo division, marking a pivotal moment in the growth and strategy of the combined cargo operations following the merger with Hawaiian Airlines. To lead this exciting new chapter, the airline has appointed industry veterans Ian Morgan and Jason Berry to key leadership positions.

Ian Morgan, with over 40 years of experience in the global cargo industry, takes on the role of Vice President of Cargo. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of Alaska Air Cargo, leading a team of nearly 600 employees. Morgan’s extensive experience, including leadership roles at British Airways Cargo, Cargolux Airlines International, Centurion Airlines, and Qatar Airways Cargo, makes him well-equipped to guide the expansion of Alaska Air Group’s cargo business, which now encompasses operations for both Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

Jason Berry, who currently serves as President of Horizon Air, assumes the position of Executive Vice President of Cargo for Alaska Air Group. His broad oversight will ensure strategic growth for the cargo division while maintaining his leadership role at Horizon Air. Berry’s impressive career spans nearly 30 years in air cargo operations, with leadership positions at Air Canada Cargo, Cargolux Airlines International, and Alaska Air Cargo. His expertise was instrumental in transitioning Alaska Air Cargo’s fleet to next-generation freighters.

Ben Minicucci, President and CEO of Alaska Air Group, expressed enthusiasm for the new appointments, stating, “We are thrilled to enter this next chapter for Alaska Air Cargo. With Ian and Jason at the helm, we are positioned for continued success as we grow and expand our cargo operations, delivering exceptional service to our customers.”

The merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines presents a unique opportunity to combine complementary cargo networks, enhancing the reach and efficiency of the group’s operations domestically and internationally. Both airlines recognize the crucial role cargo plays in supporting communities they serve, especially those heavily reliant on air travel for cargo transportation.

Ian Morgan’s leadership at Qatar Airways saw significant growth in the Americas, establishing the airline as a preferred choice for the freight forwarding community. His expertise in building successful cargo operations will be invaluable as Alaska Air Group expands its reach and services.

Berry’s dedication to cargo excellence is evident through his accomplishments at various organizations. His leadership at McGee Air Services, a subsidiary of Alaska Air Group, earned him recognition as “Executive of the Year” by Air Cargo World in 2022. His experience, combined with his role as President of Horizon Air, provides him with a strong understanding of the airline industry and its cargo needs.

With these seasoned professionals at the helm, Alaska Air Group is poised for continued growth and success in the competitive cargo market. The combined expertise of Morgan and Berry, coupled with the strategic partnership between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, promises a bright future for the expanded cargo division.
