A 27-year-old man from Alberta has been charged in connection with an alleged assault that sent a young child to the hospital with serious injuries. The Red Deer RCMP announced the charges in a news release issued on Tuesday, stating that the charges stemmed from an investigation that began last month.
Police were initially notified by Child and Family Services on June 20, 2024, about a young child in the hospital with serious injuries. Following further investigation and consultation, authorities determined that the injuries were consistent with an assault. On June 27, 2024, officers arrested the child’s father.
The man, who was not identified by name to protect the child’s identity, has been charged with aggravated assault, failing to provide the necessaries of life, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. The accused was released from custody but is subject to a number of conditions.
The incident underscores the importance of protecting children and highlights the need for vigilant community efforts to prevent and report child abuse.
