Alex Pereira made quick work of Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, securing his first title defense as the light heavyweight champion in under two minutes.
Following his win, Pereira expressed his desire to fight immediately, stating that he absorbed little to no damage during the fight. The former kickboxing champion offered to move up in weight to headline UFC 301 in Brazil next month, reflecting his eagerness to stay active.
Pereira’s proposed move to heavyweight has been met with enthusiasm from fighters in the division. Interim champion Tom Aspinall posted a photo of himself staring at Pereira shortly after the event, while Magomed Ankalaev has also called out the champion. However, Pereira is not interested in fighting Ankalaev in October, as he feels it would be a waste of time.
Ankalaev is the number one contender in the light heavyweight division, but Pereira’s recent activity may give him the opportunity to fight before October. Ankalaev has not fought since January, while Pereira has been extremely active since signing with the UFC.
The decision of when Pereira will fight next rests with UFC President Dana White. Pereira is eager to get back in the octagon soon, and there are several potential opponents who could step up to challenge him for the title.
