Alisson’s Injury Casts Doubt Over Liverpool’s Bournemouth Clash

Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Saturday could be without their star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, due to a muscle injury.

Manager Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that Alisson’s participation remains uncertain, saying, “Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today, so let’s wait (to see) if he can train.” He added, “If he can’t, he probably won’t play as well. He has a slight issue with one of his muscles, and we wonder if this game is coming too early or not.”

The injury, Slot revealed, was sustained prior to Liverpool’s 3-1 Champions League victory over AC Milan on Tuesday and was aggravated during the game.

Alisson’s absence would see Caoimhin Kelleher take his place between the sticks. Kelleher, who played a significant role in pre-season while Alisson was at the Copa America, is ready to step up if needed.

Alisson has been a vital part of Liverpool’s impressive start to the season, conceding just two goals in five matches across all competitions. The Reds are currently fourth in the league table, trailing leaders Manchester City by three points. They also made a strong return to the Champions League with a dominant victory over AC Milan at the San Siro.

Besides Alisson, Harvey Elliott is the only other expected absentee for Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. Bournemouth, meanwhile, are currently 11th in the table with five points. They have a poor record against Liverpool, having lost 11 of their last 14 Premier League encounters.
