Alstom Delivers Advanced Traxx Locomotives to Captrain Polska for Intermodal Transport

Alstom, a global leader in intelligent and environmentally friendly transportation solutions, has secured a contract with Captrain Polska, an independent European rail operator, to provide three state-of-the-art Traxx Universal locomotives. These locomotives are designed to facilitate efficient and reliable intermodal transport operations across a wide geographic area.

The agreement signifies a significant step towards enhancing Captrain Polska’s freight services. The Traxx Universal locomotives are equipped for multi-country operations, being certified for use in Poland, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. This multi-country certification ensures seamless connectivity and efficient freight movement across these key European markets.

Alstom’s commitment to sustainable transport is reflected in the design of the Traxx Universal locomotives. They are engineered to achieve optimal performance while minimizing environmental impact. Equipped with advanced Onvia signaling technology, the locomotives seamlessly integrate with the European Train Control System (ETCS) for enhanced safety and efficiency.

The production of these locomotives will be undertaken at Alstom’s facility in Kassel, Germany, with the car-body shells being crafted at Alstom’s plant in Wrocław, Poland. This collaborative effort ensures the seamless integration of engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities across Alstom’s European network.

Captrain Polska has long been a user of Traxx locomotives, recognizing their reliability and performance. The decision to acquire these locomotives marks a significant investment in their fleet modernization strategy. Paweł Szczapiński, Managing Director of Captrain Polska, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding its own locomotive fleet and enhancing its operational capabilities.

The Traxx Universal locomotives boast an impressive performance profile. They are capable of reaching speeds up to 160 km/h and can manage heavier trains than other locomotives in their class. Their robust modular platform allows for versatile configurations, catering to both freight and passenger operations.

Alstom’s extensive experience in locomotive maintenance will ensure the long-term reliability and availability of the Traxx Universal locomotives. During the warranty period, Alstom will act as the Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM), providing comprehensive preventive maintenance services. Captrain Poland personnel will also receive specialized training to handle maintenance tasks independently.

Beata Rusinowicz, Managing Director of Alstom in Poland, Ukraine and Baltic States, expressed pride in this partnership, highlighting the importance of supporting logistics operators in achieving their strategic goals. Alstom’s solutions contribute to the development of a sustainable and low-emission Trans-European Transport Network, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions.

Since 2000, Alstom has manufactured over 5,700 locomotives, deployed across Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa. As a leading provider of locomotive services, Alstom manages the maintenance of over 2,450 locomotives globally, including more than 600 Traxx models. The company’s expertise and extensive service network ensure the long-term operational efficiency and reliability of its locomotives.
