Alstom Secures €520 Million Order for 35 More RER NG Trains for Île-de-France

In a major boost for its sustainable transportation solutions, Alstom, a global leader in intelligent and eco-friendly transport, has secured a substantial contract valued at nearly €520 million. This order, awarded by SNCF Voyageurs on behalf of Île-de-France Mobilités, will see the delivery of 35 additional RER NG (Nouvelle Génération) trains. These new trains are destined to further enhance the capacity and efficiency of the RER E line, a crucial artery within the Île-de-France public transportation network, serving the greater Paris area.

This latest contract signifies a resounding vote of confidence in Alstom’s innovative RER NG technology and underscores the ongoing commitment to modernizing the Île-de-France region’s transportation infrastructure. The funding for this project, totaling €520 million, has been fully secured by Île-de-France Mobilités, highlighting the regional authority’s dedication to improving public transport for its residents. The order is part of a broader framework agreement initially signed in 2017 between SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom, demonstrating the enduring partnership between these key players in the French transportation sector.

The initial phase of the RER NG project involved the delivery of 71 trains, followed by an additional 60 units ordered in 2023. With this new order, the total number of commissioned RER NG trains now stands at an impressive 166 units, comprising 130 dedicated to the RER E line and 36 serving the RER D line. This substantial increase in the RER NG fleet signifies a major step towards enhancing passenger experience and improving the overall efficiency of the Île-de-France’s vital commuter rail network.

Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, expressed his delight at the announcement. He emphasized the renewed trust placed by Île-de-France Mobilités and SNCF Voyageurs in Alstom’s cutting-edge technology. “Alstom is delighted with this announcement, which reflects the renewed confidence of Île-de-France Mobilités and SNCF Voyageurs in this new-generation equipment. Specially designed for the Île-de-France region and manufactured by nine of our sites in France, RER NG is a real asset for modernizing the network and improving the passenger experience,” stated Wiscart.

The strategic importance of this investment cannot be overstated. The RER NG trains represent a significant upgrade in terms of passenger comfort, reliability, and sustainability. Their deployment contributes to a more efficient and eco-friendly public transport system for the Île-de-France region, significantly reducing the environmental impact of daily commutes and improving the overall quality of life for residents.

The continued expansion of the RER NG fleet underscores Alstom’s position as a leading provider of sustainable and technologically advanced transportation solutions. This large-scale project further strengthens Alstom’s commitment to supporting the growth and modernization of public transportation networks worldwide.
