AM Green Acquires Chempolis’ Next-Gen 2G Biofuel Technology, Investing $1 Billion in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

In a major move towards a greener future, AM Green Technology and Solutions B.V. (part of AM Green Group) has announced the acquisition of Chempolis Oy and Fortum 3 B.V., solidifying its commitment to developing innovative technological solutions for a sustainable future. This strategic acquisition, fueled by an investment of approximately $1 billion over the next three years, signifies AM Green’s ambitious goal of establishing large-scale biorefineries that utilize a diverse range of raw materials. These biorefineries will produce high-value, eco-friendly products, paving the way for global decarbonization across the aviation, fuels, chemicals, and other industrial sectors.

At the heart of this ambitious endeavor lies Chempolis’ cutting-edge technology. This technology boasts the capability to process multiple 2G waste feedstocks, resulting in the production of high-value, eco-friendly products and chemicals, such as ethanol, furfural, and pure lignin. This acquisition significantly accelerates AM Green’s vision of becoming a global leader in industrial decarbonization.

Chempolis Oy, a pioneer in lignocellulosic feedstock processing, brings a wealth of experience in research, technology, and product development spanning over 15 years, backed by robust R&D teams. AM Green recognizes the significant potential of these key products in various applications, paving the way for entry into multiple eco-friendly chemical value chains across various sectors, including industrial and consumer use cases.

Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with Chempolis to advance the processing of second-generation lignocellulosic feedstocks. This underscores our commitment to developing innovative technological solutions to establish large-scale biorefineries that utilize multiple feedstocks and produce high-value eco-friendly products, enabling global decarbonization across aviation, fuels, chemicals, and other industrial sectors.”

AM Green will collaborate with partners worldwide to establish a global biorefinery ecosystem, leveraging a licensing model for Chempolis’ technology. This collaborative approach will accelerate the global energy transition. Large-scale biorefineries, built using Chempolis’ technology, will address the critical feedstock processing in the initial stage, which is further valued into chemicals and fuels in the final stage, including SAF.

AM Green is committed to investing approximately $1 billion to develop over 0.5 MTPA of Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) SAF plants by 2027, playing a pivotal role in decarbonizing global airlines. The company will continue to advance the platform’s technological capabilities, enabling the processing of a wider range of feedstocks, transforming them into high-value eco-friendly products designed for diverse industrial and consumer applications.

This strategic acquisition underscores AM Green’s commitment to driving sustainable innovation and accelerating the shift towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. With its investment in Chempolis’ technology and its vision for a global biorefinery network, AM Green is poised to play a significant role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a more sustainable aviation industry.
