AM Green Acquires Chempolis Technology to Invest $1 Billion in Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production

AM Green Technology and Solutions B.V., a leading global energy transition solutions provider, has taken a significant step towards a more sustainable future. The company has announced the acquisition of Chempolis Oy and Fortum 3 B.V., marking a strategic move to accelerate its vision of developing a global bio-refinery technology platform. This acquisition is a testament to AM Green’s commitment to developing innovative technology-enabled solutions for a cleaner, more sustainable world.

AM Green plans to establish large-scale bio-refineries that utilize diverse feedstocks to produce high-value green products. These products will play a crucial role in enabling global decarbonization across various sectors, including aviation, fuels, chemicals, and other industries. The company will leverage Chempolis’s advanced technology, which is renowned for its ability to process multiple 2G waste feedstocks and produce high-value green chemicals and products like ethanol, furfural, and pure lignin.

Chempolis Oy, a pioneer in lignocellulosic feedstock processing, brings over 15 years of research, technology capabilities, and product development expertise to the table. With its strong R&D teams, Chempolis has established a solid foundation in this field. AM Green recognizes the significant potential in the downstream applications of these key products, which could open doors to multi green-chemical value chains across various sectors, including consumer and industrial use cases.

Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with Chempolis to advance the processing of 2G ligno-cellulosic feedstocks. This highlights our commitment to developing innovative, technology-enabled solutions to establish large-scale bio refineries that utilize multiple feedstocks & produce high-value green products enabling global decarbonization in aviation, fuels, chemicals, and other industrial sectors.”

AM Green will collaborate with partners worldwide to establish a global bio-refinery ecosystem using a licensing model of Chempolis’s technology. This collaborative approach will accelerate the global energy transition. Large-scale bio-refineries developed with Chempolis technology will serve the critical upstream feedstock processing, which is further valorised into downstream chemicals and fuels, including SAF.

In a bold move towards a more sustainable future, AM Green will invest approximately $1 billion to develop 0.5+ MTPA of Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) SAF plants by 2027. These plants will be instrumental in driving global airline decarbonization, contributing significantly to reducing the environmental impact of air travel. AM Green is committed to further advancing the platform’s technological capabilities, enabling the processing of a wider range of feedstocks. This will allow them to transform these feedstocks into high-value green products tailored to diverse consumer and industrial applications, catering to the growing demand for sustainable solutions.

This strategic acquisition and investment highlight AM Green’s commitment to leading the way in the energy transition. By combining Chempolis’s cutting-edge technology with AM Green’s expertise and global reach, the company is poised to make a significant contribution to a more sustainable future.
