Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has made a remarkable climb in the world rankings, rising to the No. 2 spot in the men’s 57 kg category. This comes after his impressive bronze medal win at the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympics.
Sehrawat, at the young age of 22, became India’s youngest Olympic medalist in wrestling. He secured his historic win by defeating Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz with a score of 13-5. He currently holds the second position in the rankings with 51,600 points, behind Japan’s Rei Higuchi who sits at the top with 59,000 points.
Sehrawat’s journey to the podium was filled with challenges. He lost his semifinal match to Higuchi, but his impressive performances in earlier rounds, including a 10-0 victory over North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov in the Round of 16 and a dominant 12-0 technical superiority win over Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakanov in the quarterfinals, showcased his strength and skill.
Before the Paris Olympics, Sehrawat was ranked sixth in the world. He had secured a spot at the Games by defeating Ravi Kumar Dahiya, who had won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, in the national selection trials.
With Sehrawat’s bronze medal win, India continues its impressive streak of winning a wrestling medal at every Olympic Games since 2008. His rise in the world rankings is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and the bright future he holds in the world of wrestling.
