Aman Sehrawat Wins Bronze at Paris Olympics, Securing India’s Medal Streak in Wrestling

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat has brought home a bronze medal from the Paris Olympics, securing India’s unbroken streak of Olympic wrestling medals since 2008. In the men’s 57kg freestyle bronze medal match, Sehrawat dominated Darian Toi Cruz, securing a convincing 13-5 victory. This win makes him the first Indian wrestler to claim a medal at the Paris Games.

Sehrawat’s accomplishment comes as a welcome relief after the Indian wrestling contingent was embroiled in controversy over the past two days, with Vinesh Phogat and Antim Panghal facing challenges. The 21-year-old U-23 world champion was the only Indian male wrestler to qualify for the Paris Games.

Following his victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to congratulate Sehrawat, commending his dedication and perseverance. He expressed pride in the wrestler’s achievement and highlighted his significant contribution to Indian sports.

Since Sushil Kumar’s bronze medal in Beijing (2008), Indian wrestlers have consistently claimed medals at every Olympic Games. Yogeshwar Dutt (2012), Sakshi Malik (2016), Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia (2021) have all continued this tradition, making Aman Sehrawat’s bronze medal a testament to the strength and resilience of Indian wrestling.
