Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has clarified his comments about the difference in culture between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), stating that his words were taken out of context.
Rayudu had previously said that a player’s ‘brain will explode’ if they play long for MI, adding that winning is non-negotiable in the Hardik Pandya-led franchise. However, in a recent post on Twitter, Rayudu said that he meant no disrespect to MI and that he loved his time at the franchise.
He also praised MI’s processes and positive pressure environment, which he said has helped produce some of the best talent in Indian cricket. Rayudu played for MI for eight years, winning two IPL titles and one Champions League T20 title. He played for CSK for six years, winning one IPL title.
Rayudu’s response comes after he said that the dressing room atmosphere at CSK is better than that in MI. The former India batter, who played for both CSK and MI during his celebrated IPL career, went on to say that CSK focuses more on the process, while MI is more result-oriented.
Notably, MI and CSK are two of the most successful franchises in the IPL and their playing styles have been compared many a time in the past. Rayudu’s comments have sparked a debate about the different cultures of the two franchises and the impact it has on player development.
Despite the perceived differences, both CSK and MI have a proven track record of success in the IPL. CSK has won four IPL titles, while MI has won five. Both franchises have also produced some of the best players in the world, including MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah.
