The search for Emmy glory continues for AMC Networks, as the network unveils its submission strategy for its three spinoffs from the popular ‘The Walking Dead’ universe: ‘Daryl Dixon,’ ‘Dead City,’ and ‘The Ones Who Live.’
‘The Ones Who Live’ will compete in the outstanding limited or anthology series category, featuring its lead stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira in the lead acting races. The episode ‘What We,’ written by Gurira, and directed by Michael Slovis, will also be in contention for writing and directing awards. Matthew Jeffers and Pollyanna McIntosh will seek recognition in supporting roles, alongside nominations in various artisan categories.
‘Daryl Dixon,’ starring Norman Reedus, will enter the drama series competition. Reedus will vie for a lead drama actor nod, while Clémence Poésy, who plays Isabelle Carriere, will seek a supporting role mention. Reedus’ travel show ‘Riding with Norman Reedus’ will aim for a hosted nonfiction series or special award.
‘Dead City,’ featuring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie and Negan, will see both actors battling for lead actor and actress nominations. The season finale ‘Doma Smo’ will be submitted for director Gandja Monteiro and writer Eli Jorne.
Despite its immense popularity, the original ‘The Walking Dead’ series struggled to make a significant impact at the Emmys, with only 16 nominations and two wins across its extensive run. Other spinoffs like ‘Fear the Walking Dead,’ ‘World Beyond,’ and ‘Tales of the Walking Dead’ have also been overlooked.
Beyond the ‘Walking Dead’ realm, AMC is submitting a diverse range of projects for Emmy consideration, including the neo-noir miniseries ‘Monsieur Spade’ starring Clive Owen, the dramas ‘Parish’ with Giancarlo Esposito and ‘Dark Winds,’ and the comedy ‘Cooper’s Bar’ with Rhea Seehorn. The network will also seek recognition for its documentary series ‘Planet Earth III’ narrated by David Attenborough, the reality competition program ‘The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula,’ and the doc ‘The Disappearance of Shere Hite’ narrated by Dakota Johnson, which will compete in the exceptional merit category.
