Amcor Expands Its ‘Lift-Off’ Program to Fuel Packaging Innovation with Start-Ups
Amcor, a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, is taking its commitment to innovation a step further with the expansion of its Amcor Lift-Off program. This initiative, designed to foster collaboration with promising start-ups, now features two new editions: Amcor Lift-Off Sprints and Amcor Lift-Off Connect.
Amcor Lift-Off Sprints: Driving R&D Through Collaboration
Amcor Lift-Off Sprints focuses on tackling specific research and development (R&D) challenges. This program invites start-ups whose solutions align with Amcor’s R&D priorities to participate in joint development agreements. The selected start-ups will receive funding of up to $500,000, providing them with the resources to further develop their innovative solutions alongside Amcor’s experienced R&D team. The first session of Amcor Lift-Off Sprints is scheduled for early 2025, with further details to be released next year. Amcor intends to hold two sessions annually, ensuring a continuous flow of fresh ideas and collaborations.
Amcor Lift-Off Connect: Building Strategic Partnerships
Amcor Lift-Off Connect takes a broader approach, aiming to establish strategic partnerships and pilot projects with start-ups tackling challenges that extend beyond R&D. The program seeks to nurture collaborations that have the potential to lead to further investments, fostering a long-term partnership between Amcor and innovative start-ups. The inaugural session of Amcor Lift-Off Connect, scheduled for December 4th, will focus on the application of AI in manufacturing and R&D. Like the Sprints program, Amcor plans to hold two Connect sessions annually, exploring new areas of collaboration and innovation.
Investing in the Future of Packaging
Through these expanded programs, Amcor demonstrates its commitment to open innovation and collaboration. The company plans to invest up to $3 million annually in these partnership activities, including direct investments and in-kind R&D support. This investment fosters a win-win situation, allowing Amcor to access cutting-edge technologies while empowering start-ups to scale their solutions and impact the packaging industry. The program also encourages collaboration between Amcor, its customers, and the winning start-ups, creating opportunities for three-way partnerships that address the evolving needs of the packaging sector.
A Catalyst for Industry Advancement
Frank Lehmann, Vice President of Corporate Venturing and Open Innovation at Amcor, expressed his enthusiasm for the expanded Amcor Lift-Off program, stating, “We are excited to expand our already successful Amcor Lift-Off initiative, and further energize the packaging industry by elevating these cutting-edge technologies. This is an important opportunity to work alongside our customers to provide them with the most innovative solutions available to tackle today’s packaging challenges.”
Amcor is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability in the packaging industry. By fostering collaboration with ambitious start-ups, Amcor aims to not only advance its own R&D efforts but also contribute to the development of more sustainable and innovative packaging solutions that benefit consumers and the planet.
