AMD’s Next-Gen EPYC ‘Turin’ CPU Leaked: 128 Cores, 256 Threads, and Massive Cache

AMD’s next-generation EPYC 9755 “Turin” CPU is making waves with leaked information revealing an impressive 128 cores and 256 threads driven by the powerful Zen 5 architecture. This engineering sample (ES) boasts a base clock speed of 2.70GHz and a boost clock speed of up to 4.10GHz, although these speeds are subject to change before official release. The EPYC 9755 “Turin” CPU packs a massive cache, featuring 512MB of L3 cache, 128MB of L2 cache, and 10MB of L1 cache for a total of 650MB. This significantly surpasses the current EPYC 9654 CPU’s cache capacity of 384MB of L3 cache and 96MB of L2 cache. AMD’s new EPYC “Turin” Zen 5 CPUs are designed with up to 16 CCDs (Core Complex Die), while the “Zen 5c” SKUs feature 8 CCDs. Each CCD houses 8 cores, resulting in a total of 16 x 8 cores. Notably, each CCD also includes 4MB of L3 cache. Testing has involved dual AMD EPYC 9755 “Turin” processors, totaling 256 cores and 512 threads. These processors boast an incredible 1GB of L3 cache, 256MB of L2 cache, and 20MB of L1 cache, combining for a remarkable 1276MB of cache. This represents a 31% increase in cache compared to Zen 4-based EPYC processors. The cache capacity is anticipated to increase further with the arrival of 3D V-Cache “Turin-X” EPYC processors. Leaker HXL has also provided insights into the EPYC 9965 processor, based on the Zen 5c architecture. This processor features 192 cores and 384 threads with a 500W TDP. The two EPYC “Turin” SKUs leaked by HXL suggest that AMD is poised to unleash its new EPYC “Turin” CPUs later this year. These powerful processors are poised to revolutionize server performance with their impressive core counts, thread capabilities, and massive cache capacity.
