America First Legal Sues Manhattan DA Bragg for Records Related to Trump Prosecution

America First Legal (AFL), a conservative legal group, has taken legal action against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, demanding access to records concerning the prosecution of former President Donald Trump. This lawsuit alleges a potential pattern of coordination between Bragg’s office and various political entities, including the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic National Convention, and the progressive organization Color of Change. AFL seeks to uncover any communication exchanged between Bragg’s office and these groups, citing concerns over the impartiality of the prosecution.

The lawsuit also seeks information regarding Judge Juan Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, who runs a Democrat-affiliated political consulting firm, Authentic Campaigns. AFL’s interest lies in establishing whether there were any interactions between Bragg’s office and Loren Merchan, potentially raising concerns about conflicts of interest. This move comes after AFL previously sued Judge Merchan for refusing to disclose his financial records, citing potential connections to his daughter’s political work. Authentic Campaigns has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated.

The legal action highlights AFL’s broader investigation into Bragg’s office, centered around concerns of political bias and the weaponization of the justice system in the Trump prosecution. This case follows Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, a verdict stemming from Bragg’s investigation. Trump, who maintains his innocence, is currently appealing the verdict. Judge Merchan has postponed the sentencing until after the presidential election, scheduled for November 26th.

The lawsuit against Bragg’s office adds another layer to the ongoing legal and political saga surrounding Trump’s prosecution, raising questions about transparency and the potential for political influence in the criminal justice system.
