In a heartwarming act of community service, American Airlines volunteers recently revitalized an elementary school in Guatemala, bringing smiles to the faces of children supported by the Fundaniños Foundation.
The initiative was spearheaded by team members from the Latin Diversity Network, a part of the Employee Business Resource Group (EBRG). Over 50 volunteers, hailing from both Guatemala and the United States, came together to transform the school in San José Pinula, located near Guatemala City. Their efforts focused on renovating the cafeteria, classrooms, and playground, creating a brighter and more stimulating learning environment.
The project encompassed a range of activities, including painting walls, restoring communal areas, and donating essential items like clothing, toys, backpacks, and school supplies. These improvements aimed to enhance the school’s outdoor areas and shared spaces, providing children with a more enjoyable and enriching experience.
“At American Airlines, we have a strong commitment to Guatemala, a country we have proudly served for 34 years. With this community initiative at Fundaniños, we hope that, together with our volunteers from the Latin Diversity Network, we can continue to make positive and lasting changes that improve the well-being of the communities we serve,” said José María Giraldo, General Manager of Operations for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The Fundaniños Foundation, a non-profit organization, plays a crucial role in providing support and shelter for over 70 vulnerable children. They offer vital services, including housing, education, food, and protection, ensuring the well-being of these children.
The American Airlines team’s dedication to this project exemplifies their commitment to social responsibility and the power of community involvement. Their efforts will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children at the Fundaniños Foundation, creating a brighter future for them and strengthening ties between American Airlines and the Guatemalan community.
