American Battery Technology Company (ABTC), a leader in critical battery materials, has appointed Steven Wu as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Wu joins ABTC at a pivotal time as the company accelerates its commercialization efforts and expands its domestic battery metals supply chain.
Wu brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at companies like Rivian, Nuro, Uber, and Apple, where he successfully scaled innovative technologies into high-volume manufacturing operations. His expertise in building engaged and productive teams, implementing ground-up manufacturing processes, and navigating complex partnerships with key customers and suppliers will be invaluable as ABTC expands its operations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Steven to the team at this exciting and critical stage of growth of our commercialization efforts,” stated ABTC CEO Ryan Melsert. “As we move beyond the first-of-kind design and commissioning phases, Steven brings the exact skillset and experiences needed in scaling commercial operations.”
Wu’s appointment comes as ABTC progresses toward widespread commercialization of its integrated lithium-ion battery recycling facility and primary claystone to lithium hydroxide pilot plant. He will oversee ABTC’s manufacturing operations and collaborate with leadership teams on growth initiatives, ensuring a seamless transition as the company scales its operations.
“I am very excited to step into this role at this transformative stage of ABTC’s journey to widespread commercialization,” said Steven Wu, ABTC’s incoming COO. “I share Ryan’s vision to drive accelerated but efficient and smart growth for a company leading the efforts to secure a domestic, sustainable supply of battery metals enabling our transition to electrification.”
Wu’s appointment follows the departure of Andrés Meza, who served as COO for over three years and is pursuing other opportunities. ABTC acknowledges Meza’s significant contributions to the company’s growth and success.
With Wu’s expertise and leadership, ABTC is well-positioned to continue its trajectory of innovation and growth, playing a critical role in securing a sustainable and domestic supply of battery metals for the rapidly expanding electric vehicle and energy storage markets.
