Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent rallies in West Bengal were marked by his strong criticism of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Addressing crowds in Ranaghat and Birbhum Lok Sabha constituencies, Shah alleged that the TMC stands for “tushtikaran (appeasement), mafia and corruption”.
Shah particularly focused on the Sandeshkhali incident, where allegations of sexual abuse against TMC leaders have surfaced, expressing outrage that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had failed to act against the accused. He accused Banerjee of “protecting the culprits” and allowing the atrocities to continue for years.
The Home Minister also accused the TMC of misleading people about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and slammed the party for corruption-related issues. Shah asserted that the BJP would give citizenship to every refugee and end the TMC’s “rule of corruption” in West Bengal.
Banerjee and the TMC have rejected Shah’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. They have accused the BJP of trying to polarize voters ahead of the 2024 General Elections.
