India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reached out to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha to express his concern and offer full support as the state grapples with a severe flood crisis. Heavy rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding and landslides, displacing thousands of residents.
Shah, in a tweet, confirmed that the Centre is swiftly deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with boats and helicopters, to assist the state government in rescue and relief operations. He emphasized the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people of Tripura during this difficult time.
The flood situation in Tripura has taken a tragic turn, with 10 confirmed fatalities and one person still missing since Sunday. The heavy rainfall has forced over 32,000 people to seek refuge in 330 relief camps. The state’s disaster response agencies, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), NDRF, and central paramilitary units, are actively engaged in rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas.
The severity of the floods is evident in the rising water levels across all major rivers, exceeding danger levels and inundating vast areas. The state has also experienced 1,900 landslides, causing significant disruption to road connectivity.
In response to the dire situation, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the closure of all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and state-run universities, until further notice. This decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff during the ongoing crisis.
The Centre’s swift response and the coordinated efforts of state and federal agencies offer a glimmer of hope for those affected by the devastating floods. As the situation unfolds, the focus remains on providing immediate relief and support to the people of Tripura.
