Union Home Minister Amit Shah has forcefully rejected senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s announcement that an INDIA alliance government would repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and three new criminal laws.
Shah emphasized that these laws strengthen the people of India and protect their rights. He affirmed that the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to safeguarding these laws.
Chidambaram had stated that the CAA would be repealed and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Addhiniyam would be abolished.
Shah dismissed Chidambaram’s claims, stating that neither the Congress will come to power nor will the laws be revoked. He accused Congress of appeasement politics and said they had lost their nerve after facing a crushing defeat in the first phase of elections.
Shah reiterated the importance of the CAA in providing citizenship and protection to persecuted Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Christian, Sikh, and Parsi communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. He emphasized the constitutional basis of the law and criticized Chidambaram for undermining the principles of the nation’s founders.
Shah also defended the three new criminal laws, stating that they have modernized the legal system and reflect the values of the country. He accused Congress of opposing these laws out of a colonial mindset.
Shah concluded by accusing Congress of divisive politics and seeking to appease its vote bank at the expense of marginalized communities. He asserted that the BJP will continue to uphold the rights of persecuted minorities and provide them with citizenship through the CAA.
