During a recent episode of the popular television game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC), hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, a contestant named Krishna Selukar, an engineering graduate who lost his job during the COVID-19 lockdown, found himself in hot water after making a misogynistic remark. While sharing his struggles on the show, he drew a parallel between his unemployment and the perceived burden of an unmarried woman. He stated, “If I say that an unmarried girl is a burden on her family, sir, an unemployed boy after a certain age is equally a burden.”
Bachchan, known for his strong stance on social issues, immediately called him out, emphasizing that women are never a burden. “Let me tell you one thing. A girl is never a burden. She is a great honour, a woman.” His prompt and assertive response resonated with viewers and highlighted the show’s commitment to promoting social awareness alongside knowledge.
The incident occurred amidst the excitement surrounding the latest season of KBC, which has introduced new changes and features. Before the season began, Bachchan had shared on his blog about “interesting changes” in the show, emphasizing its aim to not only provide contestants with the opportunity to win a substantial cash prize but also allow them to share their personal stories.
One of the new additions is ‘Dugnaastra,’ a feature that doubles the amount won by a contestant after correctly answering the ‘super sawaal.’ However, as revealed in a video shared by the channel on social media, the twist is that the contestant will have to answer without any options to choose from.
Season 16 of “KBC” premiered on Sony Entertainment Television from August 12 and runs on the channel on weekdays at 9 pm. Meanwhile, Bachchan is currently receiving accolades for his performance in the futuristic film ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ directed by Nag Ashwin. The post-apocalyptic film, inspired by Hindu scriptures and set in the year 2898 AD, has been lauded for its impressive visuals and performances, with Bachchan’s portrayal receiving significant praise.
