This weekend, the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) welcomed several cinematic premieres, including Ron Howard’s thriller ‘Eden,’ starring Ana de Armas, Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, and Vanessa Kirby. All four actors made a glamorous appearance on the red carpet. “I love being at TIFF,” the Cuban-Spanish actress told Vogue yesterday, the official day of the screening. “The audience here is so cinephile and knowledgeable, so I’m really happy they got to see ‘Eden’ on the big screen.” In the new film, a group of individuals sets out to build a better future by leaving everything behind and creating a new life in the harsh landscape of the Galapagos Islands. When Ana de Armas read the script, she was immediately convinced: “I never thought I’d have the chance to work with Ron, so I was thrilled when he called me about this opportunity,” the actress says. “Talking to him on the phone, and hearing his passion and about the journey of trying to make this movie for the last 15 years, was absolutely moving and compelling.” Her character—a mysterious figure simply known as the Baroness—was another draw for the actress, who was ready for the challenge of creating a whole backstory for her: “I read the story and got to know the Baroness; I felt like I had something really special in my hands,” she says. “The Baroness is a layered character with contrasts. Deep down, she’s a very fragile, nervous, and paranoid woman. I can’t say more than that.” If Ana de Armas had fun building her character, she also shone in creating a memorable look for last night’s grand premiere. With stylist Samantha McMillen, the duo settled on a Louis Vuitton gown that reflected the elevated sensibility of her onscreen character: “We wanted the dress to be breezy and fun,” says the actress. The Nicolas Ghesquiere design was cheerful, and the Francesca Amfitheatrof jewelry was luxurious and precious. Jenny Cho’s retro hairstyle, Melanie Inglessias’ makeup, and a touch of Estee Lauder’s Beautiful Magnolia completed the glamorous look: “The [fragrance] bottle matched my dress too! It was a happy coincidence.” After TIFF, the actress has many premieres ahead of her. Next, she’ll begin her press tour for ‘Ballerina,’ the upcoming action film in the John Wick universe, co-starring Keanu Reeves: “I’m so excited. The movie and all the additional photography we shot earlier this year are really epic,” she hints, “I think a trailer will be out soon. I can’t wait for people to see it.” Ana de Armas in a white Louis Vuitton dress with a sheer skirt at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival.
