The wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant have significantly impacted hotel prices and availability in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area. Rooms in prominent hotels around the BKC, where the wedding is scheduled to be held, have been almost entirely booked. According to official hotel and travel agency websites, Hotel Trident and Oberoi, Mumbai, do not have any rooms available from July 10 to July 14.
The prices of hotel rooms around the BKC have also skyrocketed. Travel websites report that room rates at Sofitel, BKC, are ₹ 13,000 on July 8, rising to ₹ 30,060 on July 13 and ₹ 40,410 on July 14, excluding taxes. Sofitel has no availability on July 10 and July 11. While some 5-star hotels near the BKC area, including The Lalit, ITC Maratha, Taj Santa Cruz, and Grand Hyatt, have rooms available, the high demand has likely driven up prices.
Anant Ambani, the son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and his fiancee Radhika Merchant are set to tie the knot on July 12 at the Jio World Convention Centre in BKC, Mumbai. The wedding celebrations began on July 5 with a Sangeet ceremony featuring a performance by international pop star Justin Bieber. The festivities are expected to continue until July 14, with a ‘Shubh Ashirwad’ ceremony on July 13 and the wedding reception on July 14. Although the Ambani family has not officially confirmed where the wedding guests will be staying, the surge in hotel prices and limited availability strongly suggest that many are choosing accommodations within the BKC area.
In anticipation of the heavy traffic expected during the wedding events, the Mumbai police have issued a traffic advisory. Starting July 12 and continuing until July 15, roads leading to the Jio World Convention Centre will be diverted and restricted. The Mumbai traffic police posted on X, “Due to a public event at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex on July 5th & from July 12th to 15th, 2024, the following traffic arrangements will be in place for the smooth flow of traffic.”
The Bandra Kurla Complex, where the wedding will take place, is one of Mumbai’s prime and most expensive locations. It houses offices of prominent organizations like the Reserve Bank of India, the National Stock Exchange, Indian Oil, State Bank of India, and Bank of Baroda. The upcoming wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant is expected to bring significant economic activity to the BKC and the city of Mumbai.
