Si Thep, an ancient town approximately 200 kilometers north of Bangkok, has experienced a surge in visitors following its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in September 2023. The town’s historical park has drawn close to a million guests, highlighting the global interest in its historical and cultural significance.
The upcoming light-and-sound show, organized by the Fine Arts Department, is set to take place from May 3 to May 5, from 6 pm to 9 pm daily. The showcase aims to entertain and educate visitors about the town’s storied past, dating back to the Dvaravati civilization, approximately 1,500 to 1,700 years ago.
Alongside the main event, the three-day festival will feature an exhibition delving into the detailed history of Si Thep. Additionally, the event will highlight local community crafts and include performances reflecting the area’s cultural richness. The first day will showcase a Khon masked dance performance, a classical dance form unique to Thailand. Traditional music and folk dances performed by local students will highlight the region’s artistic talents on subsequent days.
The light-and-sound show is meticulously planned to occur four times each evening, with each show beginning at 7:30 pm and intervals of half an hour. This scheduling allows multiple opportunities for visitors to engage with the spectacle, enhancing their experience of Si Thep’s historical ambiance.
This event is expected to attract international tourists seeking unique cultural experiences, further boosting global travel and tourism.
